Blog Writing Tips Anybody Can Use

If you’re having trouble writing for your blog, use these easy tips.

Blogging isn’t easy. It requires time, thought, and good writing. Even if you can find the hours in the day and mental energy to sit down at the computer and write a blog, putting together an engaging piece can be a challenge. The good news? You can use these blog writing tips to craft better blogs that earn you better engagement.

  • Ask questions. Do you want people to actually read your blogs? Are you hoping to inspire them to some sort of action (like calling your business)? You probably answered yes to those questions, so you’re reading this sentence. Start your blog by asking questions that your readers will answer with an emphatic, “Yes!” That way, you get engagement from the get-go and set them up to agree with the rest of your blog.
  • Use second person. We’re self-centered by nature. So when you use second person (e.g. you, your, yours), people feel like you’re focusing on them – and they like it. Using second person makes it easier for your audience to engage.
  • Make it easy. In our information-saturated age, people like bite-sized bits. Use bullets, bolded words, and regular paragraph breaks (see what we did here?) to make reading through your content feel manageable to your readers who want to be able to skim it in 5 seconds.

Best Time for your Email Campaign

Best Time to Post: Email Campaign Edition

Want to get more out of your next email campaign? Send it out at these times.

It’s not uncommon for businesses to send out an email campaign that gets a small average open rate. In fact, according to MailChimp report, companies of 50 people or fewer, see fewer than one in every four emails they send get opened. What’s more, the average click rate is less than 3 percent! Even so, email is a free way to get people’s attention, and those 3 out of 100 opens are 3 people that could turn into clients!

If you’re not quite satisfied with seeing your emails go unopened, know that your problem could be your timing. Get more out of your mass emails to clients by following this schedule from Kissmetrics’ recent study of email marketing timing.

6:00 to 10:00 a.m. These four hours mark when people are most likely to open consumer-based marketing emails. If you want to hit them with a great consumer focused piece, aim to drop it in people’s inbox when the sleep is still in their eyes.

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. People are working. Don’t send an email during these hours or it will end up at the bottom of inboxes, or in the trash.

12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Take advantage of the usual lunch break hours to hit people with relevant news and lifestyle emails.

2:00 to 3:00 p.m. That afternoon grind will leave your email completely ignored.

3:00 to 5:00 p.m. If your email is financially pertinent, send it now.

5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Want to communicate with other businesses? B2B promotions are best sent during this window.

7:00 to 10:00 p.m. As people settle into their evenings, they start to look for exciting info. Send out your promos now!

10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Don’t bother. This is a dead time, and very few emails get opened during these hours.

Best Time to Post: Social Media

Best Time to Post: Social Media Edition

If you want to get more from your social media, use this guide on when to post.

Posting to social media requires a little, if not a lot, of work. You have to think of something clever, write it in brief but catchy words, and then go through the hassle of actually getting it live. It can be a huge bummer, then, when your posts don’t get the engagement your hard work deserves. If you knew there was one easy change that could significantly improve your posts’ success, wouldn’t you do it? There is: change the time you post! Here are the best times to post on a variety of social media outlets.

Blogs

While you would want to post on other forms of social media, when others are active, blogs are different. If you push out blogs when everything else is coming up in people’s news feeds/inboxes, your blog will likely just get skimmed–if you’re lucky. Consequently, the morning is the best time for blog posting, and Mondays are the best days for that publishing.

Facebook

First and foremost, post later in the week. As people get ready for the weekend, they’re a lot more likely to be perusing their feed. Studies show that posts published on Thursdays and Fridays get 18 percent more engagement.

Later in the day is also better. While studies vary on exactly when you should hit “post,” they generally put the best times between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Twitter

Studies show that the best time to publish a tweet that you want to get retweeted is 5:00 p.m. They also say that weekday tweets get 14 percent more engagement than their weekend counterparts, and the best times for click-through is 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. (think: people bored on their lunch breaks/commutes).

We hope this helps you get more for the energy you put into your social posting. Don’t miss our post next week to find the best time to send out that email marketing piece you’ve got saved in your drafts!
